Every Corporate employee has a tendency to find faults with
his/her own Company. Appraisals were not fair, bonus amounts were not
justified, infrastructure wise the company is ill equipped, the Company is not
empathetic towards employee issues etc. How many times has the employee tried
to do a similar fault finding exercise with himself/herself?
As per the Bhagvad Gita, there is a very famous verse which
says:
“uddhared atmanatmanam,
natmanam avasadayet, atmaiva hy atmano bandhur, atmaiva ripur atmanah”.
It means: To evolve oneself the effort has to be through self
improvement. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as
well.
This means that in the inner mind, everyone knows the true
story but like every other person, they want to run away from the stark
reality. And the reality is the last thing anyone wants to face. Why? The
probable reason is that a strange child like naughtiness exists amongst people
who have a lingering thought that maybe there will be some more to expect since
everyone believes in Pepsi’s slogan “Ye dil maange more”.
Coming back to the earlier point of the verse in Gita, we
must never ever forget that to change is the most supreme act of human
evolution. To change, a person needs to put in a lot of effort towards remodeling
self. And it is a continuous process which should not be stopped at any
juncture. The best example of this is a toddler taking first steps of his/her
life. All the child is trying to do is to stand or walk and for these
relatively basic acts, he/she falls several times. But the steely resolution of
that child is to change the crawling action to walking. Notwithstanding the
number of times the baby falls on its own, eventually a day comes when the
toddler starts standing and walking. Post that the baby evolves itself to start
running and then there is no looking back.
Instead of looking up to highly decorated philosophers in
life and learning big lessons from them, a small baby teaches us so many nuances
in life. The only question is “Are we willing to learn from a tiny being?” And
if we are then the process is simple “Think Outside and Act Inside”. Once the
action finishes inside, the world outside becomes a completely different place
to exist.
